Florida’s premier academic health system continues to lead Tampa Bay, earning the region’s top ranking every year since the list’s inception.
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Tampa General Hospital (TGH) ranks No. 3 in Florida and No. 1 on Florida’s West Coast in Newsweek’s 2027 America’s Best-in-State Hospitals ranking. The recognition also marks the fourth consecutive year Tampa General has been the highest-ranked hospital in the Tampa Bay region, a distinction it has held every year since the ranking began.
Presented by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, the list recognizes hospitals that stand out within their states for quality of care, reputation and patient experience.
Tampa General has also placed among Florida’s top three hospitals every year, underscoring the health system’s commitment to delivering exceptional care powered by academic medicine through its partnership with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine.
“Ranking among Florida’s very best hospitals year after year reflects the difference our teams make for patients across the entire state,” said John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center | Tampa General. “From Level I trauma and comprehensive burn care serving 23 counties to one of the leading adult solid organ transplant centers in the nation and a growing network of hospitals and outpatient services spanning Florida, our physicians, nurses and team members bring the power of academic medicine to Floridians wherever they live. This recognition belongs to everyone at TGH, and it strengthens our commitment to raising the bar for healthcare throughout Florida.”
The America’s Best-in-State Hospitals 2027 ranking was created to identify leading hospitals at the state level, recognizing that proximity and access are crucial when choosing where to receive care. Hospitals from all U.S. states were eligible and included in a nationwide survey. Each was evaluated using four data sources: hospital quality metrics, hospital reputation, patient experience and a Statista Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation survey. The 800 hospitals that scored highest across these criteria were included on the list and ranked within their respective states.
The Best-in-State recognition adds to Tampa General’s growing list of national and global distinctions in 2026. The academic health system was named the No. 1 hospital in the Tampa Bay region for the 11th consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings and again led Tampa Bay hospitals on Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026, its eighth straight year on the global list. Earlier this year, it was also the only health system in Tampa honored across all seven specialties in Newsweek’s America’s Best Hospitals for Specialized Care 2026, and this month it was named among Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2027.
